Power Squadrons offer boating safety courses around the Twin Cities Minnetonka Power Squadron The Minnetonka Power Squadron will offer three United States Power Squadron boating safety courses in the metro area this winter and spring. All three are open to the public. The first session of a seven-week class will begin Monday, February 4, at Hopkins High School, 2400 Lindberg Drive, During these colder months, while you’re still just dreaming about spending time on your boat this summer, you can make yourself a more knowledgeable and skilled boater. Whether you are a single or family boater, new or experienced captain, you will profit from taking a basic Minnetonka 5530, Room W230. There is a course material fee of $50 is due at registration. A five-week course will begin Monday, March 31, at Hopkins High School, 2400 Lindberg Drive, Minne-tonka 5530, Room safe boating course. Members of Hiawatha Valley Sail and Power Squadron will be teaching this course twice this spring through the Community Education Departments of Hastings and Red Wing. Family members are welcome to take learn more about safe boating by also taking the W-230. Course material fee is $50 due at registration. A third course beginning Tuesday, May 6, will be held at Peace Church, 7624 Cedar Lake Rd., St. Louis Park, on the north side of Cedar Lake Rd., three blocks west of course and family discounts are available. Boat owners may also benefit from a reduction in marine insurance rates after passing a basic boating course. The two courses are as follows: • Hastings Senior High School -- March 6 April 3, six nights over Louisiana. This will be a four-week class. The course material fee is $35, due at registration. USPS is a 92-year old educational, civic and fraternal organization dedicated to teaching and promoting safe boating. Because of the shortage of instructors in the armed services during WWII, USPS members assisted their country by teaching boating classes to service personnel. Hiawatha Valley Sail and Power Squadron St. Paul Power Squadron The St. Paul Power Squadron will offer two United States Power Squadron boating safety courses at Bayport Marina, 200 Fifth Ave. South in Bayport. They are open to the public. A four-week Squadron Boating Course starts Wednesday, April 9. The class runs for four consecutive Wednesday evenings, April 9, 16, 23, and 30.
