The event is being planned by MarineMax, retailer of pleasure boats and yachts. The school targets students who prefer a nontraditional setting and hands-on learning, and who “seek an environmental or pany’s popular Women on Water® (WOW) class, designed to introduce women to the boating lifestyle, including the finer points of docking and steering, maneuvers that can cause stress in boaters of either gender. Women on Water has been a hit at MarineMax dealerships across the country, and women everywhere have raved about this unique community connection for their education.” River’s Edge Academy is sponsored by The Audubon Center of the North Woods. It anticipates teaching 120 students in grades nine and ten for the first year, educational experience for women only. “It really helped my confidence,” said St. Louis boater Patty Potter, a past WOW student. “The instructor was calm and made it easy.” The on-water Mother’s Day celebration will take place at MarineMax dealerships across the country. Activities will vary by location. The events are free and with grades 11 and 12 added later. The school does not have a building yet.
