It also contributes to poor fuel economy. Tire Sentry® ACT System is designed with wheel sensors that continuously monitor tire pressure. It activates a warning signal when a loss of tire pressure is detected. The system alerts the driver when periodic air pressure maintenance is required to maintain a tire’s optimum performance and safe driving conditions. The ACT system is available for either fourwheel or six-wheel vehicles, and a third model is designed for four-wheel powered vehicles and a towed two-wheel trailer. Microchip wheel sensors attach to each valve stem to continuously monitor tire pressure and transmit a coded signal to the dash instrument when a loss of tire pressure is detected. A warning light and audible alarm on the dash display instrument shows which tire is losing pressure usually before the tire is damaged or becomes unsafe to drive on. The sensors incorporate a pressure sensor, and a microchip transmitter powered by two standard watch batteries and are preset to your individual tire pressure requirements. Installation takes about an hour and requires connecting the receiver/display instrument to your vehicle’s 12- or 24-volt power source. If a trailer or other tow vehicle is also to be monitored, an antenna is provided to for installation under the primary vehicle No connection is necessary between the primary and tow vehicles because of the wireless operation. Wireless wheel sensors are installed on each tire valve stem, weigh less than an oz. and can transmit their coded signal up to 65 feet to the antenna located near the drive axle of the primary vehicle. It is not necessary to remove wheels or tires. The external tire sensors include an anti-theft feature. Wireless operation means no moving parts to wear. The only maintenance required is a periodic replacement of the sensor batteries, easily done by the driver. Battery life is 18 to 24 months under normal operating conditions. A low-battery feature will warn you when the batteries need replacing. Using the system will provide safer vehicle operation while improving fuel economy and maintenance with fewer tire replacement costs. Added safety helps prevent roadside emergency stops, reducing road service calls. The ACT sensor system is designed to comply with the U.S. government’s mandated Tread Act, to warn drivers of a dangerous tire problem developing when an under-inflated tire condition occurs.
