Quit the rat race and let the rats win? Developer David Nelson thinks he may have the answer. He’s building and selling homes aboard a floating condominium community. Once each vessel is complete, he will staff it with pilots, crew and managers while they navigate between ports. They plan to provide worry-freeyet adventurous living. River Cities does not operate like a full-service cruise ship. Its primary function is the safe movement of your home to places you and your community want to visit. It will manage and maintain the housing complex and all land and water transportation. They also arrange for cars and buses for shore travel. GPS to coordinate its location with a Medevac helicopter. River Cities will offer concierge and special-assistance service; shore travel in cars and buses; two restaurants, two lounges and a deli; a grocery store; theatres; hot tubs and pools; fitness equipment; jogging and walking area; a half-acre chipping and putting golf area; below-deck storage; spa, beauty and hair care; and watercraft rental for fishing and recreation. There are several options for ownership. Full membership means members can cruise the country year-round. Half-ownership offers three options: Each vessel will contain 185 to 200 condominiums, and they’re planning on 350 to 400 residents aboard. Residents share the cost of fuel, staff salaries, insurance and docking fees, which are based on the size of your home. They plan on cruising the northern rivers in the summer and the southern rivers and intra- coastal waterways in the winter, avoiding hurricane season in the South and East. The vessel will provide satellite hookup for digital television, high- speed internet and email. Snail mail, however, may be even slower. A helipad on the roof will be available 24 hours a day.
