Rick has interviewed such music luminaries as Les Paul, Roger McGuinn, Al Kooper, Eric Johnson, Adrian Belew, John 5, Ritchie Havens, Billy Morrison, and others. He’s noodled around with guitars since joining his 1960s Detroit area garage band, and owns a humble collection of vintage guitars that includes a 1952 Gibson Les Paul, a 1962 Ode long-neck banjo, a 1966 Fender Telecaster, a 1968 Martin D-35, and a rare 1969 Bob Givens dreadnaught (shown in photo). Joseph A. Rosen (“Chicago Blues”) is an award-winning professional photographer based in New York City. Kathy Chin Leong (“One Man’s Castle”) is an awardwinning travel journalist whose journeys have flung her as far as Churchill, Manitoba (near the Arctic) to swim with beluga whales and to the castles of Ireland to learn how to cast off falcons. On tap next is a China adventure where she will observe as her mother bargains her way through exotic street markets, bringing sellers to their knees. Leong has written for National Geographic Books, the Los Angeles Times, Sunset magazine, and a host of national publications. With a love for stories that are offbeat yet inspiring, she found Nitt Witt Ridge an irresistible topic. Harry Kikstra (“1000 Words”) is a climber/expedition-leader/ photographer/filmmaker/ producer/writer/public speaker/cyclist and many other things that have to do with sharing the beauty of the outdoors. After having climbed and photographed the “7summits,” the seven continental highpoints (including Everest), he is traveling again and won’t stop soon. Though normally based in Amsterdam, he has embarked on a twoand-a-half-year, 25,000 miles trip: from Alaska to Southern Argentina… on a bicycle. He wants to raise awareness about the changing environment and capture the culture and nature of the Americas in words and images. Follow him on www.BikeTravellers.com. Matt Kettmann (“A Taste of Green”) A fifth generation Californian from San Jose and graduate of UCSB, Matt Kettmann is the senior editor of The Santa Barbara Independent and www.Independent.com. He also writes regularly for Time magazine, Wine Spectator, and Sunset magazines, and has reported from such far-flung locales as Uganda, Bolivia, Belize, Costa Rica, and the wartorn, officially unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. An admitted wine snob, he happily took the Sustainable Vine Tour.
