Perhaps it is this sort of reflection that’s brought about the rise of the social entrepreneur. Tenacious and ambitious, social entrepreneurs tackle the day’s major issues, standing up not only to identify faults in the system but to confront them headon, to solve the problems. They’re “rebels with a cause,” committed and quite often obsessed with their mission for change. And along the way, they somehow persuade large portions of society to join their movement. No one better embodies the social entrepreneur than the mega-brand builder Richard Branson, and we’re honored to feature an exclusive interview with the professional rabble-rouser in this issue of BQ. Whether he is speaking about his quest for alternative airline fuels, eco-tourism, or space tourism, Branson articulates his vision with such conviction and humility that he makes most of us believe in his efforts, and in some small way believe in ourselves as global citizens. He is an inspiration. Now that the New Year is upon us, it’s time again to look to the future. For many, that translates into a desire for things better, bigger, more significant— and Broughton Quarterly is no different. We’ve tried to improve the magazine with each issue, and will continue to do so in 2008 and beyond. You’ll notice more “fun” tidbits than usual this time around, but we balance the easy entertainment with in-depth editorial content. Please feel free to drop a line; we’d love to hear what you think. After all, we publish this magazine for you. As I look to the future of Broughton Hospitality Group and this publication, I see no limits. Just ahead, in 2008, I see a year of growth— boundless opportunities to seek “Significance and Distinction”—and I pray the same for you.
