As you will see in the following pages, the last year alone has been full of good news for Buffalo State’s people and programs. We have begun major new construction projects that will enhance our ability to offer a world-class education, and we have completed another that gives hundreds more students a home on our campus. We have received our largest private gift ever, and made great strides toward our goal of increasing student scholarships. We have partnered with individuals and organizations throughout our community to enhance opportunities and improve the quality of life for our neighbors, and we have announced a yearlong celebration of the arts. I could go on and on. Lives are being changed because of Buffalo State. And everyone who studies at our university, everyone who teaches and works on our campus, everyone whose life brings him into contact with our people and programs—they all have their own “Because of Buffalo State” stories. I have one, too. It’s quite simple: Because of Buffalo State, I walk to my office every morning inspired by the energy, passion, and talent of this community of teachers and learners to find new ways of combining the opportunities of a large university with a small college learning environment. After a year at Buffalo State, I feel even greater excitement about—and faith in— the power of this university than I did when I first set foot on campus. Because of Buffalo State—its students, faculty, staff, alumni, neighbors, and friends—I believe more than ever in the power of public higher education to make a difference for its students and for the greater good. We may not be able to tell all of Buffalo State’s unique stories in these few pages, but I think you’ll get the story they collectively tell: Buffalo State is changing lives. We’re on the move.
