Buffalo State Launches Public Phase of
Transforming Lives Campaign. Buffalo
State marked the beginning of its historic $20
million fundraising campaign with a celebratory
program for the campus community at Rockwell
Hall on September 28, 2012. At the event, it was
announced that donors had contributed $13
million during the yearlong silent phase of the
campaign, which preceded the public launch.
As of June 30, 2013, the campaign had received
$16.5 million toward the $20 million goal.
The Transforming Lives campaign invites
donors to contribute to these five priorities:
n Student Scholarship Support
n Enhancing the Student Experience
n Enhancing Campus Facilities
n Excellence in Faculty Teaching, Research,
and Service
n The Fund for Buffalo State
Leadership Gifts Propel Campaign's
Success. Numerous major gifts accounted for
the success of the Transforming Lives campaign
during the 2012-2013 academic year. A sampling of these gifts:
The Whitworth and Dorothy Ferguson Foundation contributed $1 million to benefit the
college's new planetarium, which will open in
2016 in the final construction phase of the expanded Science and Mathematics Complex.

n Louis P. Ciminelli, chairman and CEO of
LPCiminelli Inc., made a $750,000 gift for
Music Department scholarships. In recognition
of the gift, the new recital hall in Rockwell Hall
was named the Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall.
n James O. Grunebaum, professor emeritus of
philosophy and humanities, and his wife, Penelope Prentice, established a $500,000 charitable
remainder unitrust to support students in the
Muriel A. Howard Honors Program.
n Efner Allen "Lucky" Davis committed
$402,000 in a charitable gift annuity to endow
the Efner Allen "Lucky" Davis Scholarship
Fund. The fund honors returning Western New
York combat veterans through scholarships.
n Sylvia L. Rosen, '71, made a gift of $250,000
to fund programming and equipment for the
ceramics program. In recognition of the gift, a
new ceramics space in Upton Hall was named
the Sylvia L. Rosen, '71, Senior Ceramics
Studio and Library.
n M&T Bank established a $250,000 endowed
fund for Buffalo State's new Science and
Mathematics Complex. The gift funds the
repair and replacement of science equipment
in the new building.
Faculty and Staff Appeal Raises
$192,000 for Campaign. Buffalo State's
2013 Faculty and Staff Appeal surpassed its
goal, raising more than $192,000 for the
Transforming Lives campaign. These funds will
support student scholarships and programs.
More than 450 Buffalo State employees made
a gift to the college through the appeal, which
ran from March to May 2013.
Scholarship Classic Nets More
Than $75,000. The Muriel A. Howard Honors
Program received a boost from 144 golfers
and 10 tennis players who participated in the
college's 15th annual Golf and Tennis Scholarship Classic on September 10, 2012, at the
Brookfield Country Club in Clarence. The event
raised more than $75,000 for scholarships for
honors program students. Pepsi Beverages
Company served as the presenting sponsor.
