Buffalo State students volunteered in the Buffalo community in January as part of the Volunteer and Service-Learning Center's first Alternative Winter Break. Students rehabilitated and renovated homes, assisted children, and collected goods at a food drive. The program is an extension of the popular Alternative Spring Break program. Runway 6.0 Inspired by City. The Fashion and Textile Technology Department showcased the best work of students, faculty, alumni, and Western New York designers during Runway 6.0, the department's annual spring fashion extravaganza, held April 27 in the renovated Social Hall in Campbell Student Union. 9 Football Teams Scores 'Biggest Win in Buffalo State History.' Junior quarterback Casey Kacz connected with freshman wide receiver Ryan Carney for a touchdown with three seconds remaining in the game to lift visiting Buffalo State to victory over the No. 1ranked Division III team in the nation, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, on September 15, 2012. The win snapped the three-time defending national champions' 46-game winning streak and was called the "biggest win in Buffalo State history" by Buffalo State head coach Jerry Boyes. Simmons Breaks Randy Smith's Career Scoring Record. Senior Jake Simmons scored a career-high 43 points against visiting Central Penn College on December 14, 2012, to become Buffalo State's all-time leading scorer in men's basketball. Simmons surpassed former NBA All-Star and Buffalo State Hall of Famer Randy Smith, whose previous record of 1,712 stood since 1971. Simmons finished his fouryear career with 2,079 points. Two Race to National Track Titles. Senior Sasha Henry and junior Jazmin Dunham each raced to national championships at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the University of WisconsinLa Crosse in May. Henry sprinted to the crown in the 100-meter dash, while Dunham blazed to a school record time in the 200-meter dash. FAC ILITIES Ciminelli Recital Hall Dedicated. The Louis P. Ciminelli Recital Hall on the third floor of Rockwell Hall was formally dedicated on November 4, 2012, before a concert featuring the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra's JoAnn Falletta. The venue, named in honor of the chairman and CEO of LPCiminelli Inc., features a dedicated green room, a fully restored 1956 Mason & Hamlin concert grand piano, and a state-of-the-art recording studio. The space is used for student and faculty recitals, for guest artist performances, and to teach and produce sound recording.
