and archives institutions, student travel between the
institutions, and development of online courses.

LoRusso, Costello Lead Alumni House Efforts.
Buffalo State announced plans to develop a new Alumni
House and Visitor Center that will be the central hub of
alumni activity on campus and will serve as a much-needed
place of welcome for the many guests who visit throughout the year. Buffalo State alumnae Jacqueline V.
LoRusso, '62, '64, and Helen Wernejowski Costello, '50,
each generously committed a lead gift of $500,000
toward the construction of the complex, inspiring
subsequent gifts from fellow alumni.

Murray Establishes Studio Arena Archives.
Eleanor Murray, who dedicated four decades to advancing
the mission of Buffalo's Studio Arena Theatre, established
an endowed fund to ensure that the archival records and
history of Studio Arena are preserved for future generations by the experts in Buffalo State's Archives and Special
Collections Office in E. H. Butler Library. Murray's
generous gift provides for the ongoing maintenance of the
Studio Arena archival collection, a permanent display of
the collection in Butler Library, and the development of a
searchable online database of the collection.

Event Celebrates Scholarship Recipients, Benefactors.
More than 350 scholarship recipients, donors, and their
family members ﬁlled the Campbell Student Union Social
Hall in October 2015 for the second annual Scholar and
Donor Breakfast. Hosted by President Katherine S.
Conway-Turner and held in conjunction with Homecoming

and Family Weekend festivities, the event celebrates
Buffalo State's scholarship recipients and the benefactors
who enhance, encourage, and empower their lives.

College Recognizes Art Conservation Donors with
Naming Ceremony.
Buffalo State honored four individuals-Bruce and Gail
Johnstone; F. Christopher Tahk, '75; and Marianne
Vallet-Sandre, '58, '65-who have made significant
contributions to its art conservation program with a
dedication ceremony in the lobby of Rockwell Hall in
September 2015. Plaques bearing the names of each
donor were presented at the ceremony to dedicate these
spaces: Bruce and Gail Johnstone Conference Room,
named for the ﬁfth president of Buffalo State (1979-
1988) and his wife, who served as planning director for the
City of Buffalo; F. Christopher Tahk Conservation Science
Teaching Lab, named for the 1975 alumnus of the
Cooperstown Graduate Program in the Conservation of
Historic and Artistic Works at SUNY Oneonta who served
as former art conservation faculty member and director of
the program; Marianne Vallet-Sandre Art Preparation
Studio, named for an alumna who also was a Buffalo State
faculty and staff member.

M&T Funds Literacy Project on West Side.
A new literacy tutoring initiative funded by M&T Bank
pairs Buffalo State education majors with children enrolled
in a four-day-a-week afterschool program. The program is
free to participants from School 45, many of whom are
immigrants or refugees, and includes Buffalo State's
Center for Excellence in Urban and Rural Education,
International School 45, M&T Bank, and the West Side
Promise Neighborhood Initiative.
