Ashley Weselak, M.S.Ed. English education, '16, received
a Fulbright U.S. Student Program grant to teach English as a
second language in Rwanda starting in fall 2016. Recipients
of Fulbright awards are selected for their academic and
professional achievement as well as a record of service and
demonstrated leadership in their respective ﬁelds.
Times reporter and Buffalo native Jeff Z. Klein, the
"Niagara Frontier Heritage Project" is composed of
roughly two dozen one-minute dramatizations of signiﬁcant
events in the region's history, such as the War of 1812,
the Underground Railroad, and the Blizzard of '77. The
series debuted on WBFO-FM 88.7 in December 2015
and is posted on the station's website. Students working
for the campus radio station, WBNY-FM 91.3, served as
recording and sound engineers for the project.

TFA Seniors Screen Original TV Pilot.
The Art of Art Therapy, an exhibition of work in various
media by 15 Buffalo State art education students, was
installed in the New York State Legislative Office Building
in Albany in March 2016. The project is part of the
ongoing Literacy in the Arts, Reading, and Culture
The 16-member senior class of the television and ﬁlm
arts (TFA) program hosted a premiere screening of their
TV pilot Cappuccino Jones in December 2015. Students
enrolled in the TFA 450 course spent the semester
writing, casting, and producing the pilot about a '70s-era
detective, his new hotshot partner, and their efforts to
nab a local drug dealer. Filming took place in Buffalo,
Cheektowaga, and East Aurora and wrapped up in
Graduate Student Receives Fulbright to Teach in Rwanda.
Student Lands Guest Spot on Food Network.
Chef, YouTuber, and individualized studies major
Lazarus Lynch, '16, appeared on the Food Network
show The Kitchen in February 2016. Lynch created
"My College Kitchen," a popular web series for students
on a budget looking for healthful and tasty food options.
His "Son of a Southern Chef" brand includes a website,
video series, and Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
09 College Unveils New Student Veterans Lounge.
President Katherine Conway-Turner and Vice President
for Student Affairs Hal Payne opened a new lounge for
student veterans, located on the ﬁrst ﬂoor of the Campbell
Student Union, in December 2015. The designated space
will also serve as the office for the Buffalo State chapter
of the Student Veterans of America.
