Student Presents Mars-Mapping Research at
National Conference.
Buffalo State student Hiruni Senarath Dassanayake spent
eight weeks mapping a section of Mars and presented
her research at the 2015 Geological Society of America
(GSA) annual meeting in Baltimore, Maryland, in
November thanks to an Undergraduate Summer Research
Fellowship from the Undergraduate Research Office.

Fulbright Scholar Practices Flipped Classroom in India.
Tina Carter, lecturer of mathematics, spent the spring
2016 semester as a Fulbright scholar at the University
of Hyderabad in India teaching abstract algebra to
70 students enrolled in the School of Mathematics
and Statistics. Carter used a hybrid model of a flipped

panel discussion and the installation of 300 small black
crosses on the Horace Mann Quad, representing the
number of unarmed people of color who died in police
custody or were killed by officers from 2012 to 2015.
