Faculty Shine at Annual Research and
Creativity Fall Forum.

Buffalo State Incorporates FranklinCovey Training
into Education Leadership Program.

Diverse examples of scholarly research-from incorporating
play into the teaching of children with autism to Buffalo's
2014 "Snovember"-were on view during the 16th annual
Faculty and Staff Research and Creativity Fall Forum in
October 2015. More than 80 stations in the Houston
Gymnasium featured posters, handouts, and one-on-one
discussions to highlight scholarship and encourage crosscollaboration among members of the academic community.

Through a unique partnership with the world's leading
performance improvement company, Buffalo State's
School of Education has embedded FranklinCovey
educational materials in its certificate of advanced study
(C.A.S.) in educational leadership curriculum. Students
preparing to become school building and district leaders
through the C.A.S. program at Buffalo State now gain
FranklinCovey certification as well.

Ceremony Recognizes Faculty and
Staff Accomplishments.
Seventeen new Buffalo State Chancellor's and President's
Award winners were honored during a recognition ceremony
in October 2015 in the Performing Arts Center at Rockwell
Hall. The fourth annual event to honor faculty and staff
accomplishments also welcomed new employees to campus.

ACADEMICS

New Grant Funds Certificate Program for
Dislocated Workers.
Buffalo State received a $100,000 grant from the New
York State Department of Labor to train unemployed
and dislocated workers in the community. The college's
Continuing Professional Studies Office and Engineering
Technology Department began offering a free 12-month
basic machine II operator certificate to qualified participants
in May 2016. Students who enroll in the comprehensive
program receive 2,000 hours of transferable manufacturing
skills that will prepare them to fill entry- and mid-level
positions at a range of businesses.

12 Buffalo State Receives New EOP Funding
from SUNY Investment Program.
SUNY officials announced in February 2016 that Buffalo
State will receive $407,000 to expand the college's
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). The new
funding will enable the campus to enroll about a hundred
additional EOP students. Historically, Buffalo State
receives an average of 4,000 EOP applications each year
for approximately 165 openings in the freshman class.
EOP was established in 1967 to fulfill New York State's
commitment to access to higher education.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Buffalo State Hosts Coding Camp for Girls.
Buffalo State, AT&T, the Girl Scouts of Western New
York, and the WNY STEM Hub partnered to create
the region's first computer coding program exclusively
for girls-"It's Your World! Develop It! Powered by
AT&T"-to encourage more women to enter the field
of technology. The inaugural Coding Day Camp for Girls
ran from July 18 to 29, 2016, with 40 girls from local
urban middle and high schools participating.
