Buffalo State Earns Top-30
National Ranking, Best Bang
for the Buck Designation.
Buffalo State College ranked 26th nationally in
Television and Film Arts Program Hosts
10th Annual Night at the Oscars.
Buffalo State's television and film arts (TFA)
program celebrated its 10th annual Night at
the Oscars in February 2017. The student-run
multimedia gala celebrates the Academy Awards
in red-carpet fashion. TFA students view the
nationally televised event on the big screen, share
their Oscar picks in red carpet interviews, enjoy
light refreshments, and watch a collection of short
student films, casting their own votes for best
picture, best director, and best screenplay. The
highly selective TFA program prepares students for
a variety of careers in the entertainment industry,
including screenwriting, producing, and directing.
Washington Monthly magazine's 2016 master's
universities rankings, released in August 2016.
Washington Monthly's college rankings rate
schools based on their contribution to the public
good across three broad themes: social mobility,
research, and service. The top master's universities
grouping includes more than 600 institutions
from across the country. Last year, Buffalo
State ranked 95th among master's universities.
Buffalo State was also recognized in the
magazine's regional "Best Bang for the Buck
Colleges in the Northeast" category, ranking
72nd out of more than 380 four-year colleges
and universities. Buffalo State's undergraduate
full-time in-state tuition and fees are the lowest

among all four-year colleges and universities in
Community Academic Center
Celebrates Fifth Anniversary.
Buffalo State's Community Academic Center
(CAC) celebrated its fifth anniversary in December
with an open house and its annual neighborhood
holiday festival, "Peace, Love, and Grant Street."
Located at 214 Grant Street in Buffalo, the CAC
builds partnerships with community organizations
and schools to promote education and health
programs for children and their families on Buffalo's
West Side. It also offers classes for English-language
learners and helps immigrants prepare for the
United States citizenship exam. Since its creation,
the CAC has helped more than 10,000 children
Western New York.
09 Buffalo State Recognized
by President's Community Service
Buffalo State was named to the President's
Higher Education Community Service Honor
Roll for the eighth time in October 2016. The
honor roll recognizes colleges and universities
that support exemplary community service
programs and effective campus community
partnerships. The President's Honor Roll is the
highest federal recognition an institution can
receive for its commitment to community,
service learning, and civic engagement.
