Conservation Fellowships.
Buffalo State received a $139,000 grant from
the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation in July 2016 to
support the Garman Art Conservation Department's
Library and Archives Conservation Education
(LACE) program. The grant provides fellowships for
two graduate students who started the program the
following fall. The LACE specialization falls within
the department's paper conservation curriculum.
Graduates conserve rare books, manuscripts, maps,
historical documents, photographs, and archival
materials with archives, historical societies, and
libraries around the world. The New York-based
Mellon Foundation has awarded several grants to
the art conservation program over the past three
decades, including a $1.25 million challenge grant
in 2014.
Tower Foundation Supports
Precollegiate Program.
The Tower Foundation of Buffalo awarded
Buffalo State a three-year $54,142 grant to
fund "Access BSC: Bridge to Success in College,"
a weeklong program in summer 2017 that provided
25 precollegiate students with disabilities with the
crucial skills needed to successfully transition
to college.

Housed at Buffalo State in E. H. Butler Library's
Archives and Special Collections since 2009, the
collection includes more than 200 linear feet of
items such as news articles, manuscripts, diaries,
gay pride parade posters, books, music and video
artifacts, community organization records, and
many other pieces that date back to the 1920s.

the archives of the former Buffalo Courier-Express.

Commons.
The John R. Oishei Foundation provided a
$75,000 grant to help establish Buffalo State's
new Academic Commons. Currently under design
