B U I L D I N G F O R T H E F U T U R E The new $33 million Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State College opened to the public in 2008. This is only the beginning. For the next five years, Buffalo State will experience an unprecedented building boom. More than $300 million in additional funding has been allocated for planning, construction, and improvements to campus. From major buildings and additions to infrastructure upgrades, funded projects* include: Science and mathematics complex: $110 million 16 Athletics stadium: More than $40 million A 4,000-seat stadium and parking ramp, to be used in partnership with the Buffalo Public Schools. Infrastructure upgrades: $10 million The three-level 222,000-square-foot complex will be home to the Chemistry, Biology, Earth Sciences and Science Education, Mathematics, and Physics departments as well as a new planetarium. Campus student housing: $48 million Electrical substation replacement and duct bank construction for new buildings. Student Union Quad: $8 million This apartment-style dormitory will feature 507 beds situated in 124 fourbed apartments, each with single rooms and full kitchens, allowing the college to meet increasing demand for on-campus housing. Technology center: $40 million The new quadrangle will provide additional green space, expanded outdoor seating, contemporary walkways, a new outdoor café, and enhanced illumination. Rockwell Hall renovations: $5 million Includes expansion of the upper floors for the Art Conservation Department and construction of a 150-seat music recital hall. Miscellaneous upgrades: $1 million This new building will house the Computer Information Systems and Technology departments and include computer labs and research space. Rockwell Road reconstruction; roof replacements. The college has also received $750,000 for its 2010–2020 Facilities Master Plan. By 2015, this campus—the only SUNY comprehensive college located in a city— will be transformed. *Figures have been rounded and are subject to change.
