Buffalo State is a national leader in human services research and training. The Center for Development of Human Services (CDHS) at Buffalo State College, with offices throughout New York State, is one of the largest human services training organizations in the United States. CDHS trained more than 40,000 people in more than 10,000 human services agencies in 2008. Employers want college graduates with global experience, and Buffalo State ensures that students have every opportunity to experience other cultures and other places. The college’s International Education Office coordinates our international study programs in Australia, Canada, England, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico, and Spain as well as our Siena Program, SUNY’s oldest study-abroad program. We have developed many connections with China and now offer Chinese language courses. Our Center for China Studies, which maintains relationships with three Chinese universities, offers coursework in Chinese culture and business and hosts visiting scholars. Last year, we welcomed 17 students from earthquake-torn Sichuan Province to our campus for the 2008–2009 academic year. The college is continually expanding its international connections. The Geography and Planning Department works with universities and nongovernmental organizations in Cambodia and Thailand on wastewater treatment and access to clean drinking water. The departments of Fine Arts and Music collaborate with Moscow State University. The Music Department developed study and performance partnerships with Poland’s University of Warsaw. The Economics and Finance Department and the Small Business Development Center partner with the Universidad de Quintana Roo on the Yucatán Peninsula to help organize credit cooperatives in Chetumal, Mexico.
