October 1-1, 00 Hetta Gilbert Sale The Hetta Gilbert Sale was started in 1959 to honor Hetta Gilbert, a long-time Burlington resident who used her status and wealth to help others. Used items in good condition are donated by the society’s more than 120 members and their neighbors, relatives, and friends. Proceeds from the sale are used to help with the basic health-care needs of needy Des Moines County children, including medical, dental, and vision services. November 00 Fine Arts League GALA The Fine Arts League is a tax exempt organization whose major function is to support the arts in Burlington. Our major fund-raiser is the Fine Arts GALA, an elegant auction which initiates the holiday season with flair. The evening begins with a silent auction and proceeds with a live auction. 100% of the money raised at GALA is donated back to the community 40% is given as scholarships, 50% goes to local requests for major projects and 10% for special request projects which are distributed throughout the year.
