Focused on providing comprehensive services, Wärtsilä partners with clients on a local level, and now has operations in 160 locations around the globe. The company’s Puerto Rican office was established to better serve power plant and cruise ship customers in the Caribbean, and is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. As General Manager Marc Tarbox explains, Wärtsilä is a Finnish company, and the Puerto Rican office is a wholly owned subsidiary, serving clients with a wide range of projects. “The global operation provides solutions for the marine and power plant industries, he says. “In the Caribbean, we predominately serve power plants – that’s about 98 percent of our business.” Regardless of the customer, Tarbox stresses, Wärtsilä strives to establish a partnership, allowing it to provide customized services to clients as their needs evolve. Tarbox recently spoke to Energy + Infrastructure about the company’s growing Caribbean operations – which extend to the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Cuba, Aruba, Jamaica and many other island nations – and how Wärtsilä is helping clients embrace greener operations.
