Columbia Home & Lifestyle - January/February 2009 - (Page 3) photo by Jennifer Kettler “A cup of tea and a new magazine.” I saw this phrase printed on a mug and thought, “ah ha.” It is one of life’s greatest pleasures: propping yourself up on the sofa with a hot drink and your favorite magazine. Our digital edition doesn’t quite afford that kind of old-fashioned experience, but a new-fangled one instead. Some of us will embrace it more enthusiastically than others, but I do hope you’ll give it a try. I think you’ll enjoy it. Columbia Home & Lifestyle continues to publish its print version every other month, but in the alternate months we will be publishing a digital edition. There are many advantages to this: we will be bringing you a new Columbia Home & Lifestyle every month, in an ecofriendly manner. With a digital publication, we can provide audio and video clips, slideshows and animation, which aren’t possible in a traditional print medium. Most of the content in the digital edition will be different from that of our print version. We will bring you some exciting additional content and behind the scenes looks at some of our print articles, but you can look forward to a wide variety of new and interesting features in each issue. We’re kicking off January with a focus on the arts. On page 32, you can join Adele Coleman on her painting trip to Italy with Paul Jackson. Please click on page 36 to read about Columbia’s very own We Always Swing Jazz Series and the marvelous programs coming to town this spring. The jazz series, which has been bringing world-class music to mid-Missouri for 14 years, is one of the many reasons we Columbians are rightly proud of our rich cultural opportunities. And there are slideshows embedded in two articles (pages 13 and 24) and video on page 46. Simply click on the box to view. It’s a brave new world, and we’re eager to share it with you. We will refine and expand our digital edition in the months to come—if you have any suggestions or feedback, please feel free to contact me at christina@columbiahl.com.
