This time I got to visit Providence Point, a home I had been in at a social function, but not as a photographer. It is a light-filled, welcoming house, set on the side of a hill with a great view. While I shot the Forsees’ portrait on the deck in the back, two hawks circled in the warm afternoon sun above us. Editor's note: Deanna was named a 2008 Artist Booth Fellow, for which she received a $50,000 fellowship. The award is aimed at supporting artists in a variety of disciplines. I’ve never had a group of people stand behind me while I’m trying to shoot a photo for the magazine. It’s usually just me behind the camera. There were six assistants, a stylist, makeup artist, hair stylist, a props person and me. At one point, while I was taking a picture and adjusting the lighting, I turned around and there were 10 people giving our model, Michelle Baumstark, different directions: “Turn this way.” “Look that way.” “Fix your hair,” while someone else added last-minute make up.
