Here, students learn about and explore the political and social ramifications of El Salvador’s civil war, and visit pilgrimage sites and the UCA (the University of Central America, a Jesuit institution). The trip to El Salvador is just one of the many service trips offered through the Office of Campus Ministry. Securing the right job after college requires much more than a good resumé. The Canisius Career Center provides a wide array of services to students, including career and academic major exploration, self-assessment, individual career counseling, networking tips, video-taped practice interviews, on-campus career fairs and more. The Career Center Web site is an excellent resource and is visited more than 2,600 times per month. The site allows you to search for available career or internship opportunities, participate in on-line career fairs or take an on-line self-assessment. Serving others www.canisius.edu/service www.canisius.edu/servicelearning Canisius emphasizes the Jesuit tradition of “men and women for others” through a wide variety of community service opportunities. The ServiceLearning Program bridges the classroom and the community to help professors incorporate service-learning into their courses. That means students apply what they learn in the classroom to real-world settings while they serve others. All three of Canisius’ academic divisions offer courses that incorporate service-learning. For students interested in an immersion experience, the college sponsors annual service trips to Jamaica, Mexico, New York City, Appalachia, El Salvador, Poland and India to help those in great need.
