If you pursue a teacher certification program, you will have field placements, as early as sophomore year, which give you the opportunity to observe other teachers and apply what you learn in the classroom. Volunteer work and a variety of school partnership programs can also help you gain experience prior to completion of your senior year student teaching placements. In the Sports Medicine/Athletic Training Program, you will work toward certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association. In addition to your classes, you will complete 875 hours of hands-on work with athletes on- and off-campus, and an off-campus internship to round out your practical experiences. p Peter Koehneke, director of the Athletic Training Program and chair of the Department of Sports Medicine, Health and Human Performance, is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame. p Canisius College sponsors the annual Teacher Recruitment Days in conjunction with the Niagara Frontier College Placement Association. It is the premier teacher recruitment event in Western New York, which draws school districts from across the country to recruit and interview teaching candidates. Get them both! You will be pleased to learn that Canisius offers a full range of education options at the master’s degree level, required for permanent certification in New York State. Students who earn bachelor’s degrees in education often complete their master’s degrees in one year of full-time study.
