Cannery Row - Monterey Visitors Guide - (Page 17) Heritage Highlight Tour 17 Monterey Cannery & Warehouse 700 and 711 Cannery Row Originally one of Monterey’s major sardine canneries, the two buildings of the Monterey Canning Company are connected by one of the original sixteen bridges that vaulted the street, shuttling unfilled cans to the cannery and then packed cans of sardines back to the warehouse for shipping by rail (today’s Recreation Trail follows the path of the rail lines). Today, visitors find unique shops and restaurants and walk the bridge to both. Spindrift Inn 652 Cannery Row The Wu family built the stylish Ocean View Hotel in 1927 as part of the Roaring Twenties expansion of Monterey. Today, the Spindrift Inn is located on the site and reflects the charm of the original.
