Cannery Row - Monterey Visitors Guide - (Page 7) Sanctuary 7 You can be out on the water with only a few minutes’ basic instruction; kayaks are rented for one or two people, and you will be provided with nylon-coated splash suits that go on over ordinary clothing. (Shorts and a t-shirt, and maybe a sweatshirt if it’s foggy or breezy, are fine – expect to get a little wet!) If you’ve never kayaked before, or if you want to make the most of your visit on the water, sign up for a twohour guided excursion. You’ll hear tales of Cannery Row’s past and learn an amazing amount about the creatures seen and unseen in the bay. There is no better place to experience the Sanctuary up close and personal than on Cannery Row. Walk McAbee or San Carlos Beach, searching the waves and sand for shells and other sea creatures or take out a kayak. Monterey Bay is one of the world’s premiere cold-water diving destinations, so put on your wet suit and start exploring. Or you can just pull up a deck chair, relax with a glass of wine or an ice cream cone and watch the waves roll into shore.
