Travel time to Avalon, the Island’s only city, can be as little as 15 minutes by air or one hour by boat. Travel time to the village of Two Harbors is about 75 minutes by boat from San Pedro. Lockers For your convenience, lockers are available for storage while you enjoy your day on Catalina Island. They are located at the Island Plaza and at the Boat Terminal Mole. Catalina Island Chamber Of Commerce Located at the foot of the Green Pleasure Pier, the Visitor Center can provide information about transportation, accommodations, activities and events. ATM Machines And Bank Locations There are six ATM locations in Avalon: Discovery Tours Information Center on Catalina St. (across from the Green Pleasure Pier), Abe’s Liquor Store, at the Boat Terminal Mole, on the Green Pleasure Pier, at US Bank (303 Crescent Ave.), and the Shoreline Ofﬁce Supply Store in the Atwater Arcade across from the Post Ofﬁce. Population The city of Avalon has a population of about 3,500. Summer and weekend population can rise to over 10,000. Minor Children Children less than 18 years of age are minors. Avalon enforces a curfew for minors between 10pm and daylight. Per Avalon Municipal Code, Section 5-6.02, minors are in violation of curfew if in public between curfew hours, except when: • Accompanied by their parent, guardian, or other adult person who is at least 10 years older than the minor • Returning directly from a meeting, entertainment, place of employment, recreational activity or dance • On an emergency errand directed by his/her parent, guardian, or other adult person at least 10 years older than the minor. Per the Avalon Municipal Code, Section 5-6.04, no hotel owner, operator, or employee shall permit the occupancy of any room by a minor unless such minor is accompanied by: • His/her parent Climate There’s a reason Catalina Island is said to have “the perfect climate.” Catalina boasts a year-round Mediterranean climate, with warm, sunny days and cool evening breezes. Summer temperatures average 75º, while winter temperatures average 65º. The sun shines an average of 267 days a year. Average rainfall is 14 inches per year. Bring a sweater or light jacket for an overnight stay, and don’t forget your swimsuit! Visit one of the many clothing shops in Avalon for a wide selection of tropical resort wear. Shipping/Mail Services Residents and visitors must pick mail up at the post ofﬁce. Coin-operated showers are located along the Casino Walkway. Free salt-water showers are available right on the beach. Don’t forget to bring your towel!
