Award-Winning Projects… 2007 American Academy of Environmental Engineers Excellence Awards • The Los Angeles integrated resources plan (IRP) received the Grand Award in Planning. In an effort to more efficiently manage sustainability of their water resources, the residents of Los Angeles—from policymakers and engineers, to business owners and community leaders—collaborated to establish a landmark stakeholder-based IRP that identiﬁes the interdependent needs of the city’s wastewater, recycled water, and stormwater systems, and optimizes these systems by incorporating the dynamic values of the Los Angeles community. Led by the city of Los Angeles and the joint venture team of CDM and CH2M HILL, the Los Angeles IRP is a technically and environmentally sound, cost-efficient approach to water resources planning. • CDM’s coastal development and environmental improvements project for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) received the Honor Award in Design. The project addressed imminent health threats and improved vital services for Budva, Kotor, and Cetinje— coastal communities that attract more than 600,000 tourists to Montenegro each year. CDM led the complex $8 million design-build infrastructure improvement project, which accommodated a 17-percent increase in tourist visits, resulting in a 22percent increase in tourist-related revenue during the tourist season, by ensuring reliable delivery of water and wastewater services for citizens and visitors alike.
