People Highlights… Robin N. Black, LEED AP (Chicago) was reappointed to the advisory board of directors for the Women’s Transportation Seminar, Chicago Chapter. In addition, Robin is serving as a board member for Chicago Women in Trades and was appointed to the board of the Young Women’s Leadership Charter School of Chicago School. Kellene M. Burn-Roy, P.E. (Carlsbad) served on a panel discussion at ATHGO International’s Third Annual Global Forum on Global Warming and Climate Change at the United Nations in New York. More than 400 young professionals and students attended the event, all of whom were selected from an estimated 8,000 applications from more than 100 countries. Richard (Rick) A. Cloutier, P.E., BCEE (Houston) was reappointed by the mayor of Houston to serve a third term on the board of directors of the Coastal Water Authority. Rick is serving as secretary/treasurer of the authority. Donna L. Friis, P.E. (Maitland) is serving a 4-year term on the national American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 7 Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures Main Committee and Wind Subcommittee as an associate member. Jill T. Grimaldi (Vero Beach) was named vice chair of Region 8 of the Florida Section of the American Water Works Association. Jill was also appointed to the Employ Florida Banner Center for Homeland Security Advisory Board to represent the drinking water industry. Tammy L. Hayes (Tampa) is serving as chair of the Local Host Committee for WASTECON 2008—the International Solid Waste Association of North America conference. William (Bill) S. Howard, P.E., BCEE (Cambridge) was the guest speaker at the initiation dinner of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Chapter of the Chi Epsilon National Honor Society. Bill spoke about “Leadership & Challenges for New Graduates Entering the Corporate World.” In addition, Bill was recently named Northeastern University’s Civil Engineering Department Distinguished Alumni of the Year for 2007. John W. Hofer, P.G., CPG (Oak Ridge) was nominated by the American Institute of Professional Geologists to serve as the institute’s national vice president for 2008. Ronald (Ron) D. Miner, P.E., and Buvana Ramaswamy (Cambridge) were re-elected treasurer and vice treasurer, respectively, of the Rhode Island Flood Mitigation Association. Lisa D. Sherman, P.E. (Providence) was elected to a 2-year term as vice president of the Women’s Transportation Seminar Rhode Island Chapter. Mark E. Wessel (Raleigh) was appointed to the North Carolina American Water Works Association/Water Environment Association Plant Operations Committee.
