The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards are sponsored by CEA and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), the voice of industrial design, committed to advancing the profession through education, information, community and advocacy. The annual competition honors outstanding design and engineering in CE products. Since 1989, the prestigious Innovations Design and Engineering Awards have given consumer technology manufacturers and developers an opportunity to have their newest products judged by a panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and trade press. The Innovations 2008 awards represent 32 product categories ranging from audio accessories to headphones to in-vehicle control/OEM integration to wireless handsets. New categories this year include healthcare, eco-design and sustainable technology. To qualify for the competition, entrants must manufacture, design or develop products marketed in U.S. retail outlets or on the Internet between March 1, 2007 and February 29, 2008. The entries are judged on the engineering qualities of the MOE Vison Half.pdf 10/29/07 3:38:05 product, including technical specifications and PM materials used; the product’s intended use/function and user value; aesthetic and design qualities; unique and novel features; contributions to consumers’ quality of life; and impact on the manufacturer’s business model. Winning products reflect innovative design and engineering. Innovations 2008 Product Displays Award plaques are on display in the honorees’ booths at the International CES to recognize these companies as technology leaders. The honorees also can use the Innovations 2008 logo on all packaging and advertising to identify their company as having achieved excellence in product design and engineering.
