The Innovations 2009 Design and Engineering Awards, one of the most distinguished consumer technology awards programs, is sponsored by CEA and endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). IDSA is the voice of industrial design, committed to advancing the profession through education, information, community and advocacy. The Innovations Design and Engineering Awards is an annual competition which honors outstanding design and engineering in consumer electronics products. Since 1989, this prestigious program has given consumer technology manufacturers and developers an opportunity to have their newest products judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers and members of the trade press. The Innovations 2009 awards include 34 product categories ranging from audio accessories, health and wellness, in-vehicle control/OEM integration and wireless handsets. To qualify for the competition, entrants must manufacture, design or develop products marketed in the U.S. retail outlets or on the Internet between March 1, 2008 and February 28, 2009. Each judgment is based on the engineering qualities of the product, including technical specifications and materials used, the product’s intended use/function and user value, aesthetic and design qualities (using visuals provided), unique and novel features, contributions to consumers’ quality of life, and impact on the manufacturer’s business model. Products chosen as Innovations Honorees reflect these qualifications. Innovations 2009 Product Displays Distinctive award plaques are displayed in the honorees’ booths at the International CES, giving honoree companies industry-wide recognition as technology leaders. The honorees are entitled to use the Innovations 2009 logo on all packaging and advertising to identify their company as having achieved excellence in product design and engineering. www.ce.org
