Fabian has participated actively in CEA’s services and Customer Care Council (sCCC) for years and was recently inducted into the National Electronics service Dealers Association’s (NEsDA) Electronics Industry hall of Fame. After decades of experience leading repair and service divisions at companies like Hitachi, Philips and Toshiba, Fabian “retired” to start his own consulting firm. His business is booming as manufacturers increasingly need outside expertise to provide a complete, cost-effective after-sale service and support solution to their customers. Fabian’s small business, Professional Service Solutions, LLC, works with CE manufacturers, OEM suppliers, dealers and independent 3PSP’s to work through support-related logistics and after-sale support issues. Reacting to rapid technology shifts and an ultra-competitive marketplace, manufacturers have shortened model introduction cycles and added additional product lines. Fabian sees a niche for experts who help companies manage expanded parts inventories, product returns and catastrophic product defects. Internationally, he works with companies from China, India, Japan, Korea and Thailand. His expertise helps overseas clients develop long-term service strategies to ensure they comply with state laws and also meet the expectations of U.S. consumers. Fabian says he enjoys participating in CEA and the SBC. “The SBC programs at CEA’s Industry Forum were perhaps the most informative and innovative I have attended in my 25-plus years in the CE industry,” says Fabian. “The future is optimistic for small business in the CE industry and I for one plan to take full advantage, participating both on the SBC board and in all SBCrelated events going forward.” He also encourages members to join the CEA Political Action Committee (CEAPAC). “We need the voice of CEA to support small business in Washington,” says Fabian. As for the future, Fabian says. “I believe we must develop cross-functional methods to minimize product returns, methods to maximize recycling efforts and policies to embrace environmentally sound practices for product disposal.” For more on future SBC events, contact Deb Kassoff, dkassoff@CE.org, 703.907.7655. www.CE.org/SBC 2008 CEA Et MArk Ch r rEsEA ChECk out CEA’s nEw rESEArCh StudiES: • Accessories Ownership and Market Potential • Wireless Data and Entertainment Services • In-Vehicle CE Ownership and Usage • Digital File Storage • 6th Annual State of the Builder Technology Market All research reports are free for CEA members and many can be purchased by non-members. This year’s conference will address hot button issues including free trade and product interoperability. Free trade is a vital component to the continued growth of the consumer technology industry and the global economy. Open markets support the U.S. economy and also create American jobs. Day one of the Washington Forum will bring together industry representatives and legislators to discuss the importance of free trade and America’s right to innovate. Day two of the Forum will focus on the DTV transition, including HDMI interoperability and the future of DTV standards. The cut-off date for analog television of February 17, 2009, is quickly approaching. In conjunction with the CEA Washington Forum, the Fourth Annual Digital Patriots Dinner takes place on April 2 to honor technology innovators and key legislators that have impacted the growth and success of the consumer electronics industry. This year’s dinner will honor the work of Verizon Communications Chairman and CEO Ivan Seidenberg, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-VT) and Representative Tom Davis (R-VA). Also, for the first time, all proceeds will benefit the United Service Organizations (USO) and its support of U.S. troops and their families.
