OUR FRIENDS Longtime CITY contributor ANTHONY COTSIFAS returns this issue with “Hardwear” (page 92). Collaborating with CITY Senior Fashion Editor Beverley Hyde, Cotsifas juxtaposes industrial metallurgy with high-design jewelry. Cotsifas lives and works in New York with his wife Patricia Heal, another favorite CITY photographer. His work has been published extensively, with credits in The New York Times Magazine, Details, German Architectural Digest, and Dwell. FABRICE FOUILLET’s photography typically combines lucid colors and powerful lighting with striking results. For CITY, however, he chose to keep it simple and let the jewelry shine, evoking a Picasso-esque vibe with his “Twisted Sisters” (page 110). Fouillet is a photography school dropout from just outside of Paris who now shoots stateside and abroad for the likes of Paris Match, Wad, and Squint, as well as Chanel, Diesel, and Stolichnaya. Originally from Colombia and raised in Miami, JUAN ALGARIN got his big break shooting models in South Beach when he was 19. He then relocated to New York and won Surface’s first-ever Avant-Guardian competition for new photographers. Since then, Algarin has worked with publications around the world, including the New York Times, Elle Italy, Glamour Germany, and Vogue Greece. “I have had the great fortune to be shooting now for 15 years,” says Algarin, who teamed with stylist Alex Slavycz to create this month’s “Basic Instinct” (page 118). PLAMEN PETKOV knows a thing or two about below-freezing temperatures. This month, the Bulgarian-born photographer and current Manhattanite shot snowflake-themed cufflinks, watches, and clutches in a shimmering array of metallics sure to add a little heat to the sea of grey and black this winter (page 28). When he’s not keeping warm at home with his wife Kathryn and dog Peanut, Petkov shoots for Harpers Bazaar, V Magazine, MAC, and Neiman Marcus, among others. CITY is breaking out the big guns with photographer TROY HOUSE’s story, “To Die For” (page 100). A modern take on artist Robert Longo’s famous “Men in the Cities” series, the photos feature the best of the season’s menswear. A veteran of the industry, House balances life with his family in New York with work for numerous major publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Harper’s Bazaar, Food and Wine, and InStyle. “I’m a naturally clumsy person and I really shouldn’t do anything to increase my chances of tripping,” says LAURA NEILSON, a freelance writer with bylines in Time Out New York, Nylon, and Chow.com. Despite her two left feet, Neilson turned her eyes skyward (or rather, roofward), for “Raise the Roof” (page 66). Although she enjoyed the architectural marvels now littering city skylines, her favorite structure remains a quaint little cottage on the corner of her street in the East Village. 14 CI T Y http://Chow.com
