On the heels of such quintessential New York shops like Opening Ceremony and Foley & Corinna, Los Angeles welcomes another round of Manhattan imports this spring. — MEREDITH FISHER STEVEN ALAN NEW YORK LOS ANGELES EARNEST SEWN: www.earnestsewn.com A pioneer of the peg-leg look, celebrities and regular folk have been flocking to its Meatpacking District shop since April 2005 (and to the Lower East Side this summer) for its cigarette-styled Harlan jean. The Malibu Country Mart outpost opens in May, while the super-sized, 6,000-square-foot flagship on Beverly Boulevard is slated for June, along with the first out-of-NYC location of delicious Lower East Side vegan bakery BabyCakes. STEVEN ALAN www.stevenalan.com His mini retail empire includes two signature shops (Nolita and the West Village), an Upper West Side outlet, a multi-brand Annex in Tribeca, an outpost in Korea, and a new line of suits launching this season. Los Angeles got not one, but three SA stores this season: on North Robertson in February, in Brentwood shortly after, and an Annex in Venice is coming this summer, carrying brands like APC, Mayle, and RRL. 3.1 PHILIP LIM www.31philliplim.com The ladies love Lim, so when he opened his SoHo store last July, everyone from Debra Messing to Catalina Sandino Moreno turned out to toast his bi-level boutique. Lim will be in good New York company, and competition, when he opens in June a stone’s throw from fellow New Yorkers John Varvatos and Steven Alan.
