(I blogged about this on CITY’s website, so bear with me if you already know this story.) It all happened when I missed the Marc Jacobs show because of traffic, and since MJ was slammed for having started two hours late the season before, we who were tardy by more than 15 minutes were shunned at the door. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because I followed the mystery invitation I had in my day’s pile to a nearby showroom, where I was introduced to a relatively new menswear collection: Oumlil. Drawing from his native Casablanca, Hisham Oumlil brings fresh ideas to traditional tailored menswear, producing such things as a one-shoulder vest in a three-piece suit (mirroring that of a colonial sash) or putting raglan sleeves on a blazer, a feature typically found on jackets and coats (or exercise gear) in order to provide greater ease of movement. Oumlil is definitely the way to go for men who appreciate the finer, and less conventional, details. — JULIE RAGOLIA French Fusion RETAIL: COLETTE X GAP opening its first American shop — from September 6 to October 5 only — inside The Gap’s concept store at Fifth Avenue and 54th Street. Like the original, Colette x Gap features Colette‘s signature firebox candles, room fragrance, musk oil and other products, as well as exclusive Hello Kitty watches, Asics Tiger sneakers, and Oakley sunglasses. Limited-edition Gap classics are also available, customized by artists including Anne-Marie Herckes, Olympia Le Tan and graffiti master Monsieur André. New, eclectic products will be unveiled each week, just like at the Paris store, so there’s no reason to fly off to the City of Lights until after the last runway show is over. — AS ARMANI PYTHON PALETTE COMPACT: PHOTO BY ALEXANDRA HUTCHINSON Just in time for New York Fashion Week, the edgy Parisian boutique Colette is ////////////HAVE YOU HEARD // That Saville Row tailors lost their claim to the word “bespoke” as meaning exclusively handmade, following a ruling by the British Advertising Standards Agency? 18 CITY TY
