CITY Issue 58 - (Page 20) /// ACTION Fashion “Scents” ANNIVERSARY: NINA RICCI'S L'AIR DU TEMPS With a new celebrity releasing a new fragrance every other week, it’s easy to forget the craftsmanship and artistry perfumes had in decades past. But the romance and luxury are still alive at the house of Nina Ricci. Now in its 60th year, the French fashion line is releasing an anniversary edition of its famed “L’Air du Temps” fragrance. The iconic twin dove bottle was the first to be made of crystal, and the new one comes dressed in Lalique black crystal, which, like the scent, was inspired by the first collection of Olivier Theyskens. “I have a very clear sense of the fragrance I want to smell on the shoulders of the woman I love,” Robert Ricci once said. There’s no doubt that this spicy floral scent, which will be available exclusively at Neiman Marcus starting in October, will leave a lasting impression. — DELIA PAUNESCU ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Out of This World ART: CORINNE WASMUHT In an age when we’re consuming media on miniscule iPods and YouTube, it may feel like an otherworldly experience to behold, in person, the epic visual works of Corinne Wasmuht. Having already emerged as one of the preeminent youngergeneration German artists, Wasmuht is in pole position to mystify gallery-goers in her second solo exhibition at New York’s Friedrich Petzel Gallery. One of several new paintings to be unveiled, “Barrier,” is presented below — albeit paling in comparison to its actual 7’ x 18’ dimensions. This vastness plays especially well in Wasmuht’s favor, given that fictionalized architectural spaces and landscapes are often the “subject” of her work. Each painting is constructed through layering found objects on wood panels and then treating with repeated oil varnishes to a level of detail that must be seen to be appreciated.
