CITY Issue 58 - (Page 28) /////// ACTION Vuitton Fanatic COLLABORATION: COMME DE GARÇONS AND LOUIS VUITTON The Louis Vuitton monogram has historically signaled luxury all over the world. Ambassadors, ram movie stars, even royalty like the Duke and Duchess of Windsor have been seen toting LV luggage and trunks. Now, the stately brand is being celebrated all over again. Starting Sept. 4, the entire Comme de Garçons store in Tokyo will open with a special redesign dedicated to the LV logo. Rei Kawakubo, founder of des Garçons and a longtime Vuitton fan, wanted to revisit her initial impressions of the first LV store to come to Japan in 1978. She created an exclusive collection of six, one-off bags, specially customized for the occasion, which will be on sale through mid-December. — DP /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Rubbing Elbows COLLECTION: RAFFI RS The suede elbow patch may never be the same. In Raffi Shaya’s fall RS collection, the designer added the absentminded professor’s signature style accessory to his exquisite cashmere and merino wool sweaters. Some suede accents stretch all the way from the triceps to the wrists, while other designs eschew suede in favor of contrast stitching that fools the eye. The collection includes 100 percent cashmere sweaters and vests, woven shirts, caps, scarves, jackets, and pants, all with unique details such as pick-stitching, pigment dying, and basket weaving, so even those without a Ph.D can feel smartly dressed. — AS Fizz in Fashion COLLABORATION: CAVALLI AND COCA COLA Nothing is bubblier than a Roberto Cavalli dress — except, perhaps, a bottle of Coca-Cola. No doubt seeing the connection, the glamorous designer has partnered with the soft drink company to “dress” a limited edition of the couture bottles for Coca-Cola Light. Three different dress designs will be featured, though each bottle will be “unique, special, and exquisitely feminine,” he says. Cristina Santucci, marketing director of Coca-Cola Italia, states that the bottles “appeal to women with a strong personality . . . women who love beauty, design, art and culture” — in other words, every CITY reader. So, the next time you’re in Milan, keep an eye out for a whole different kind of couture. — JENNIFER WRIGHT English to the Max DESIGNER: LEON MAX dured since well before Jane Austen’s day. Even Madonna gave in and bought her own. Now, little girls who grew up dreaming of Mr. Darcy can look to the Leon Max Collection. Named after the founding designer of the more casual MaxStudio, the limited-edition line was created at a centuries-old villa in the English countryside. Trousers and coats are made of tweed, slim wool, and cashmeres, while tops and dresses are adorned with delicate beading, metallic jacquard, and jewel tones. It’s just the thing for the modern-day Elizabeth Bennett — or a Material Mom. — DP //////////////////////////// ////////////////////////////HAVE YOU HEARD // The appeal of the English manor has enThat jewelry designer Gabriel Urist says that his newest inspirations are, “Basketball, and Stevie Wonder, and Sigur Ros.? “I’ve been listening to that song ‘Olsen Olsen on repeat for days,” he said That Michael Jackson will team up with Ed Hardy designer Christian Audigier to launch a clothing line in the fall?
