CITY Issue 58 - (Page 52) CITY LIFE / DIARY BY JULIE RAGOLIA MY GANT DIARY CITY’s fashion director recalls her experience on the other side of the camera I fi rst met photographer Scott Schuman last year during New York Fashion Week. I emembe specifically what I was wea ing that day: a camouflage, kimono-style No ma Kamali jacket with an ove sized colla , and a black knit hat. I looked like a thug ve sion of nais Nin, which seemed pe fect fo oaming incognito th ough B yant Pa k on such a ainy Septembe day. I emembe that outfit not because my memo y is so keen, but because the next day my attempt at anonymity appea ed on www.style.com unde the headline, “One Pa t Flappe , One Pa t U ban Wa io .” It had been posted by the well-d essed gentleman who had politely taken my pictu e as I t ied to go unnoticed. Since then, Scott has photog aphed me seve al times fo style.com (to which he is a egula cont ibuto ) as well as fo his blog, The Sa to ialist (thesa to ial ist.com) which in its second yea has become something of a fashion institution. Scott and his thousands of comment- eady eade s have b ought eve yday pe sonal style to the anks of celeb ity. s a esult, seve al co po ate entities have negotiated to have thei b ands pictu es on the blog, which is p ecisely how I came to be cast as a model fo G NT Clothing. We decided to have a little fun and document the expe ience fo you all, because we think it’s time you got to know some of us he e at CIT a little bette . nd we’d like to get to know you a bit bette , too. THE CALL When Scott called me about the shoot, I giggled, but immediately said yes. Being photog aphed by him is always a blast, and the idea of defining my pe sonal style with one clothing b and posed an inte esting challenge. I had always liked G NT: the designs a e classic, unde stated, and not t end-d iven — qualities I’d use to defi ne my own fashion aesthetic. This should be inte esting, I thought. We set a date fo me to go to the show oom fo a fitting. / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / ///// DARTING BETWEEN CARS, SCOTT RAN FROM THE CENTER OF THE STREET TO THE SIDEWALK, CAPTURING FRAMES AS I DID MY BEST TO STAY COMPOSED — PHOTOGRAPHY BY SCOTT SCHUMAN 52 CITY TY http://www.style.com http://www.style.com http://www.thesartorialist.com http://www.thesartorialist.com
