Go On
I teach a "go on" while doing the
beginning, straight jumping gridwork with my dogs and I target the
line with a toy or a Treat & Train. I
normally am also running forward
as quickly as I am able. The "go
on" work to a target is intended to
help my dog understand to stay
in extension and not turn back toward me unless directed to do so.
Some of the popular choices for
this verbal cue are "go," "go on,"
or "away."
Go on!
Dog runs straight until he runs out
of obstacles.
Out
An "out" or "get out" does not need
to include a lead change. I use
"out" on course if there is a big
arc of obstacles I need the dog to
carry out to while I move to get into
position somewhere else. And, of
course, you need a good "out" for
all kinds of distance work as well
as Gamblers and FAST sends. I follow my husband Jim Basic's excellent techniques for teaching "out."
Wrap Left or Right (Cik Cak)
I love wrap cues for a few reasons.
The gymnastic skill of wrapping in
a nice, balanced circle around a
wing is helpful for our dogs. I don't
want the wrap so tight that the dog
hits the wing; I want him to learn
to move smoothly in an arc while
gently bending his body.

away from the handler.
and find a wing to wrap in whichever direction was cued: "cik" means
wrap left and "cak" means wrap
right.
I decided that I could not remember "cik" and "cak" so I use a generic "wrap" cue for both directions. If, however, you can keep
them straight, I think "cik" and
"cak" give a tremendous directional advantage on course.

Dog sends forward to a jump and
wraps the wing to his left or right.
A perfectly timed verbal direction cue can alert your dog before she arrives at an
obstacle as to where she is going next. Yes, our body language takes care of lots of
that information, but if I can help just a little bit more, I like to do so.
