Looking at the Line Here the handler is cueing the dog to run on a parallel line. The dog is going straight: jump-straight-jump-straight-tunnel. The handler stays visually connected with the dog at all times by turning her heads toward the side the dog is running on. She is looking at the ground so she can peripherally see the dog and the equipment. The dog can see the side of the handler's face the entire time and is therefore able to commit to the obstacles and focus on his task. Disconnecting This is the same straight-line sequence, but here the handler is not connected with the dog at all. She is looking forward to the tunnel and the dog cannot see the side profile of her face. This can lead to many errors including knocked bars, refusals, and off-courses. July 17 | Clean Run 9
