During a USDAA PVP Tournament Relay I learned the hard way that my youngest dog was afraid of the baton. Although she plays with many toys and is around lots of PVC, apparently a dog and handler team rushing at her and handing off a white stick was too much.When we got home I gave her treats near the baton and it seemed like she was okay with it until we did another relay. So back to the drawing board. Someone suggested letting her retrieve the baton, but it was too big for her mouth. So I made the baton into a treat dispenser. I taped off the bottom end of a scrap piece of PVC pipe that was about the same size as the baton, ﬁlled it with kibble, and then taped the other end just halfway closed so the kibble could come out. My dog is now knocking the PVC pipe around on the ground so she can get her treats, and I can now wave the baton near her head without her ﬂinching. D
