So you can either hold the board up yourself or you can rest the approach end on something low and sturdy (a couple of phone books, a plastic step stool, or a milk crate, for example). © rachel sanders Repeat this exercise until the dog is confidently jumping into position at the end of the board on both your left and right side. At this point, it’s time to change the setup and progress to having the board tip. Take the dog over to that end of the board. If your dog is good with offering different behaviors, wait until he offers any interaction with the board and reward it. Next begin to wait for the dog to jump on the board. Tapping the board with your hand often prompts the dog to jump up. The first time the dog jumps on the board, reward him just for being on the board and then ask him to jump off. The dog should be looking at the end of the board, neither toward you nor toward the center of the yellow. When you see the dog looking in that direction, cue him to get on the board. Just use a release word such as O.K. or use a generic Get Up command. When you release the dog, he should jump onto the end of the board, stand there, get rewarded, and then wait to be released with a verbal cue.
