For me agility is all about setting the
dog's path. The sequence of obstacles
set by the judge defines where the path
should lead and setting the path for my
dog through these obstacles is my job as
a handler. I want to plan my handling to
set the line through as many consecutive obstacles as possible, generally three
to five depending on course
complexity, so my dog will

Sequence
A Masters/Excellent level
sequence with an idealized
dog path for the section from
#1-#3 is depicted in red in
Figure 1. The path shows
the optimal and most efficient path the dog can take
through the course. To begin, the dog should be set on
an angle in preparation to
slice jump #1 so he's headed
toward jump #2 on landing.
Setting this line over the first

path for the dog, and allow the dog to
take #2 in extension, thereby covering
more ground the fastest way possible.

Turning right is the shorter path and also
sets the dog up better for jumps #5 and #6,
but it must be done in tight collection.
Turning left the dog can be more extended,
which for some teams could result in a
faster time even with the adjustments
needed to go to #5.
