the potential clients you are looking to land. It's okay
to be specific. Your peers who you meet and connect
within your association involvements are also great
sources of ideas, intelligence and sources for leads. Use
them. It is also a good idea to reevaluate your association
memberships to make sure you are getting results. Maybe
there is a new group to consider. One attorney we spoke
with relates a story of their firm handling a successful
maritime foreclosure on behalf of a banking client. Their
engagement led to a membership in an association of
marine bankers which has been a source of new work for
the firm. You never know where the next opportunity will
come from.
The tagline of former CLLA President Bob Bernstein's
Pittsburgh based firm Bernstein Burkley's billboard,
"Evolving city, Evolving economy, Evolving Law Firm"
speaks to the requirement to constantly change strategy
and tactics. Now a video billboard in a prominent location
may not be for everyone, but their firm has used their
creditors' rights beachhead to grow their firm in several
new directions and has gotten results. The firm had an
excellent reputation nationally, but was not as well known
locally, other than for creditors' rights and bankruptcy.
That has changed.
And then there is the internet. A few years ago, I
attended a Legal Marketing Association meeting in New
York and was shocked to hear a silk stocking, top-ten law
firm say their number one marketing priority was website
development and search engine optimization (SEO). An
increasing number of firms in our network, when asked
if they have received a significant case from the internet,
are saying, "yes." The handful of firms that have made
their web presence and SEO a priority are seeing quality
referrals, although a good bit of chaff comes with the
wheat.

With so many more channels
on the dial, having a true
multi-channel marketing and
outreach strategy has never
been more important.

CLLA Eastern Region
Conference Recap

By Walt Lockhart
STA International
Eastern Region
Immediate Past-Chair
Walt Lockhart is the Chief
Operating Officer of STA
International as well as
President of their subsidiary,
Asset Source International,
a skip tracing/asset location
company.
He has been a proud
member of the CLLA since
1995 and was previously
on the Board of Governors
from 2013 to 2014 as the
Young Members Section
representative.

On behalf of the Eastern
Region, I would like to say
THANK YOU to all of the
attendees who made it out to
our first Atlantic City Eastern
Region Conference of the
CLLA. It was a fantastic
meeting, with both strong
educational and networking
opportunities for everyone
there. The Tropicana did an
excellent job at making us
feel welcome and appreciated,
so we're really looking
forward to being back in
2018.
Moving a meeting as rich
with tradition as the New
York City meeting was no
small leap of faith. We were
thrilled to host well over one
hundred CLLA members as
they came out to forge new
traditions while still staying
true to our triadic spirit.

A special note of thanks to our Arrangements Chair,
Warren Pinchuck, and Education Chair, Tim Wan, for their
tireless commitment to making the meeting as successful as
it was.
Stay tuned here for further details about the 2018
Eastern Region Conference next year. We hope to see all
of you back...and if you didn't make it this year, you were
missed! I hope that you'll make plans to join us in AC!

The firms that thrive today have a local, as well as
a national, focus - they use their niche to leverage new
opportunities, to acquire new clients, and cross-sell their
practice areas to existing clients. 
