The Ventura County Maritime Museum (Fisherman’s Wharf in Channel Islands Harbor, 2731 S. Victoria Ave., 984-6260) showcases an internationally renowned collection of maritime art and ship models dating from 1650 to the present; local maritime history; and guest artist exhibits. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. year-round. The Jim Hall Kart Racing School (654-1329, www.jimhallkartracing.com), America’s most renowned karting academy, operates a specially built, brand-new racing facility in Oxnard. Just south of Oxnard is Port Hueneme, the largest deep-water port between Long Beach and Oakland. It is also endowed with gorgeous beaches, parks, a fishing pier and fine restaurants. Simi Valley Tour through Air Force One, which served Ronald Reagan and six other US presidents from 1973–2001 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum (40 Presidential Dr., 577-4000 or 800-410-8354, www.reaganlibrary.com). The library celebrates Ronald Reagan’s life and presidency through photographs, memorabilia, a replica of the Oval Office, a section of the Berlin Wall and changing cultural exhibits. Thousand Oaks The upscale residential community of Thousand Oaks, 20 minutes south of Ventura on Highway 101, is a regional cultural center thanks to the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Performing Arts Center.
