Self-guided walking tours and culinary guides are also available at the Visitors Center, corner of S. California and Santa Clara streets. Half Day—Not Much Time? Start downtown at City Hall, an historic landmark and a striking example of neoclassical architecture. Walk several blocks along historic Main Street to Mission San Buenaventura, the Museum of Ventura County and the Albinger Archaeological Museum. Drive to Ventura Harbor Village to enjoy lunch at one of the many waterfront restaurants. Full Day—Getaway In the morning, start at City Hall as above, but take more time to tour the Mission and visit the adjacent museums. Enjoy lunch at a downtown restaurant. In the afternoon, head for Channel Islands National Park Visitor Center at Ventura Harbor Village, where you can view fascinating displays and exhibits of the magnificent Channel Islands, located off the coast. Take a harbor cruise or rent a kayak or pedal boat to explore on your own. Dine at one of the waterfront’s numerous restaurants. Two Days—Stay a While On Day 1, follow the above itinerary. On Day 2, travel with Island Packers to Anacapa or Santa Cruz Island and spend the day hiking in one of the nation’s most pristine natural wonderlands. Three Days—Sea More of Ventura Spend Days 1 and 2 as outlined above. On Day 3, rent a bike or surrey cycle and cruise along the beachfront bike path and promenade. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the beach or at a waterfront park. Spend the afternoon browsing through downtown art galleries and shops for unusual items to bring home.
