EE Times - August 6, 2007 - (Page 40) planet <<38 use of lower-cost dc/dc regulators downstream. During an overvoltage event, the LT4356 regulates the output to a user-defined voltage by controlling the gate of an external n-channel MOSFET. Inrush-current limiting is achieved by controlling the gate voltage slew rate. The LT4356 monitors voltage drop across a current sense resistor at the input of the circuit to protect against www.eetimes.com overcurrent faults. For either an overvoltage or overcurrent fault condition, an integrated fault timer ensures safe shutdown of the MOSFET if the fault persists. An auxiliary amplifier is provided for use as a voltage detection comparator or a low-dropout linear regulator controller. In the LT4356-1, shutdown of the IC reduces the quiescent current to 5 μA. For the LT4356-2, the auxiliary amplifi- er and internal reference remain active to ensure a keep-alive supply voltage for vital functions while the main system is shut down. Pricing: In 1,000-piece quantities, prices start at $1.98 each. Availability: Production quantities are available. Linear Technology Corp. www.linear.com leading products Bidirectional level translators provide ±15-kV ESD protection Maxim Integrated Products has added the MAX13042E-MAX13045E highspeed, four-channel, bidirectional level translators with ± 15-kV ESD protection on I/O Vcc lines. The devices provide the level shifting necessary for high-speed data transfer in multivoltage systems by operating with VL voltages from 1.62 V to 3.2 V and Vcc voltages from 2.2 V to 3.6 V. Over those operating-voltage ranges, the products provide a guaranteed data rate of 100 Mbits/s with external push-pull or open-drain drivers that source as little as 4-mA output current, according to the company. The bidirectional level translators are said to be suitable for high-speed data transfer between low-voltage ASICs/PLDs and higher-voltage systems. The bidirectional level translators are fully specified over the extended temperature range (–40° C to 85°C). They are available in 3 x 3-mm, 14-pin TDFN and 1.54 x 2.12-mm, 12-bump UCSP packages. Pricing: Prices start at $1.20. Availability: The MAX13042E is shipping now. The MAX13044E and MAX13045E are future products; contact Maxim for availability.
