Continuing the tradition that began at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) in Silicon Valley, attendees of ESC Boston will be receiving a complete development kit that’s theirs to keep after the show. However, we’re extending the Build Your own Embedded System (BYOES) program one step further. Now, attendees can chose between two different platforms. This program ties directly in the conference’s “Learn Today, Design Tomorrow” mantra. In fact, it goes one step further, into learn today, design today. Now, designers will leave the conference with a kit that’s already configured (both hardware and software) and mostly debugged. It takes all the guesswork out of the design. The first kit is based on a 1-gHz AMD K8 microprocessor, and it’ll be loaded with both Windows XP Standard and Windows CE. The kits, produced by iBase, also ship with a 40-gbyte hard drive, 512 Mbytes of DDR2 DRAM. Hence, the ceiling on the design is extremely high. Potential classes in this program include: 1. An introduction to Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 2. An introduction to Windows XP Standard 3. Application development 4. Web services on devices 5. using the device as a Web and file server 6. Debugging: debugging zones, breakpoints, and the CE shell 7. understanding the ins and outs of flash file system integration 8. Embedded uSB made easy The second kit attendees can choose is the Beagleboard. This highly integrated platform is based on an ARM-based microprocessor, the OMAP 3530 from Texas Instruments. It’s bundled with a version of Linux from Monta Vista, which is supplied on a SD card provided by Numonyx. Potential classes in this program include: 1. Beagleboard 101 (a pre-conference workshop) 2. Implementing a Web-based user interface 3. Turn the Beagleboard in to a uSB gadget (with Suspend/Resume) 4. using the OMAP DSP as a Linux co-processor 5. Controlling a DC brushless motor with the Beagleboard 6. Software Defined Radio with Beagle 7. Teaching Software with Sugar and Block Diagrams 8. Running Android on the Beagleboard EsC Conference tracks program schedule exhibition Exhibitor list regiStration registration packages and pricing MyEsc planner Hotel & travel info 15 17 18 3 www.embedded.com/boston http://www.embedded.com/boston
