Embedded Systems Design Europe - November 2007 - (Page 13) cover feature 256Mbyte up to 1Gbyte. The 3.5 inch SBC provides four USB V2.0 ports, two 100/10Base-T-LAN interfaces, and one PS/2 interface for keyboard and mouse. In addition, there are a CRT interface, stereo I/O and a P-ATA hard disk interface. For display, the systems use the video controller integrated within the LX800 processor. This controller has a 16Mbyte (UMA) video memory and supports VGA resolutions. The video input supports resolution of up to 704 x 288 pixels with eight frames per second. The interfacing is carried out via coax connection. For optional assembly with solidstate memories, the PC includes an EIDE CompactFlash slot. The MPC2xx family facilitates individual expandability with an optional MiniPCI socket. In addition to the functions of the MSB800, the MPC21 has two COM ports (1x external, 1x internal), one LPT interface and one PCI/104 slot available. The MiniPCI socket permits the integration of WLAN or field busses. In addition to the functions of the MSB800, the MPC21A system features four COM ports, one LPT interface, four relay outputs, and four optically isolated inputs. As an option, COM3/4 can be fitted with a galvanized, isolated RS422/485 interface. The MiniPCI socket also serves for the integration of WLAN or field busses. Beyond the functions of the MSB800, the MPC21B variant has two COM ports, one LPT interface and two CAN ports with galvanic isolation. In this model, the MiniPCI socket allows the integration of WLAN. All computers are able to boot from CompactFlash, LAN, USB or the optionally integrated 2.5-inch 40 Gbyte hard drive. Power is supplied directly from a 12/24V or a 110/220V power supply. Designed for low power consumption (typically 10 watts), the systems operate within the temperature range of –25°C to +70°C. The PCs may be used stand-alone, wall-mounted or mounted on a DIN-Rail. They run with all PC compatible operating systems, such as Windows XP, QNX, Linux, etc. and work with any application software written for PCs. Optionally available is a SLAX CF, which is a bootable CompactFlash containing the Linux operating system. SLAX-Linux is based on the Slackware Linux distribution and runs directly from the CF without installation (it The MPC20 point of sale systems and control computers. For decentralized control computers for CAN I/O, control of interactive devices and firewalls, the MPC21B represents the ideal solution. HIGH RELIABILITY An MTBF (mean time between failure) value of over 200,000 hours confirms the high level of reliability of DIGITALLOGIC’s MPC2xx family. It is the result of thorough function and stress tests of each individual component and the system as a whole. These tests include accurate process documentation, process control during the production and rigid acceptance tests before delivery. All of the relevant measurements are carried out on DIGITAL-LOGIC’s own testing and simulation systems during the development process: Immunity: EN61000-6-3/-6-2, EN55022/55024 ESD: EN50082-1/-2, EN61000-4-2 Temperature: IEC60068-2-1, MIL-STD-810 RoHS/WEEE: Directive 2002/96/EC Humidity: IEC60068-2-78, MIL-STD-810 Vibration/Shock: IEC60068-2-6/-27, MILSTD-810 Security: EN60950, UL e1: Vehicle accreditation EN60601: Technical medical accreditation requires 185Mbyte). The SLAX CompactFlash contains: ● Linux kernel 2.6, offering excellent hardware support ● the latest ALSA sound drivers ● NdisWrapper for loading Windows drivers for WIFI cards ● madwifi drivers for native support of WIFI cards (Multiband Atheros) ● X11 (xorg) Xwindow system, supporting many gfx cards and wheel mice automatically ● KDE 3.5, an excellent desktop software ● webconfig feature to save session data to slax’s web Thanks to their light weight of 500g or 700g respectively, the small dimensions and the high functionality, the PCs of the MPC2xx family are the ideal solution for industrial and commercial applications. Typical applications of the MPC20 are cost-effective information terminals, control of interactive devices and firewalls. The MPC21 is also ideal for cost-effective information terminals as well as for communication over COM1 and LPT, measuring instruments and video implementation. The MPC21A is suitable for machine control, Soft SPS, building automation, All process data, including data codes of the individual components, is recorded in a quality information database (QIS). All test results as well as support and repair work are fully registered in the database, making it possible to trace back every process. The embedded computers are subject to strict release testing before delivery and are aged in a climate chamber during continuous operation. Each product is given a test certificate. As a rule, DIGITAL-LOGIC uses components that remain available for at least five years after product release. In the event of unexpected component discontinuation, DIGITAL-LOGIC carries out a redesign using compatible design and functionality so the application is hardly affected.
