Microwave Engineering Europe - March 2008 - (Page 35) PRODUCTS 35 Quad-band polar EDGE power amplifier module in a half-size package for 3G handsets and equipment AWT6155 from Anadigics is a quad-band polar EDGE power amplifier (PA) module for 3G wireless handsets and equipment. Designed to meet requirements for GSM and EDGE mode operation with Qualcomm’s WCDMA and HSPA chipsets, this 3rd generation quad-band polar EDGE PA delivers full power output in a smaller package. The 5 x 5mm package, half the size of current generation EDGE PA modules, includes separate amplifier chains, one to support GSM850/900 bands, the other for DCS/ PCS bands, which are both optimized for greater efficiency, power, and linearity in GMSK and 8PSK modulation. The PA also has an internal reference voltage Low-ESR MLCCs reduce power consumption in RF applications Murata’s GQM series of high-Q multilayer ceramic chip (MLCC) capacitors features low ESR and high Q at VHF, UHF and microwave frequencies. Low ESR — 0.1 Ohms at 1 GHz for a typical 10 pF capacitor — helps reduce power consumption in mobile phones, base stations and telecommunications equipment, particularly in RF power amplifiers. The series comes with high voltage ratings up to 250 V in 0603 packaging, and up to 100 V in 0805 packaging. Further, 0805 versions rated at 250 V are under development. Capacitors under 5 pF are available with tolerances as tight as ±0.05 pF; while 5 to 9 pF parts have tolerances and integrated power control scheme for simplified GMSK operation, which makes production calibration faster and easier and reduces the number of external components required. The AWT6155 incorporates the company’s proprietary InGaP-Plus™ technology for state-of-the-art reliability, temperature stability and ruggedness. www.mwee.com/206800278 down to ±0.25 pF, and 10 to 20 pF parts offer tolerances as low as ±1 percent. The GQM series’ inner electrode is made of copper, which is both economical and effective when compared to palladium.
