Microwave Engineering Europe - September 2008 - (Page 33) MOBILE PLATFORMS 33 into any existing baseband/ application processor platform. Standard software API’s and excellent hardware connectivity offer the ability to deliver improved video and/or audio performance into an existing platform with minimum disruption and huge performance gains — substantially increasing the effective platform life. Additionally, once the integration has been successfully achieved on one SH-Mobile device, the use of other devices in the SH-mobile family is a straightforward path to adding the latest technology (e.g. 1080p HD) or a different range of functions (e.g. Mobile TV) to the slower changing baseband platform — allowing a single platform to address many different price/performance segments. Figure 1(b) shows an example of the use of a companion chip for processing media applications in the Nokia N95 handset (based on original data from Portelligent). Conclusion The mobile phone market is unforgiving in its timeline, with the development time for each new platform now exceeding the lifetime of that platform once it is launched. And with the fickleness of the consumer in demanding or rejecting new applications and features, it has become impossible for the platform designer to predict exactly what functionality will be required by the time the platform enters service. A futureproof design strategy — based on maximum customisability and taking full advantage of interface standardisation and modularisation — provides the best way of dealing with these pressures. Optimisation of the platform at all levels — software, board level hardware, silicon and IP, and the architecture itself — has been shown to result in a platform that is best prepared to cope with all the demands that the OEM and consumer are likely to place on it. ANTENNAS MICROWAVE CIRCUITS AND RADAR CROSS SECTION ANALYSIS SOFTWARE Integrated INTEGRATED’s tools provide solutions to a wide variety of electromagnetic field models, which can be obtained based on the Method of Moments (MoM) approach for open region problems and Finite Element Method (FEM) for closed region problems. Fast. Accurate. Easy-to-use. • Link to CAD packages for true representation of complex geometric shapes • Powerful parametric solvers Other benefits: • Incorporated Physical Optics (PO) along with the Moment Method • Only tool in the market that handles Highly Lossy Materials • Built-in FFT solver, for electrically large problems • Accurate calculation of near field distribution • Field distribution with any arbitrary, free form geometry • Excellent match when comparing software results with experimental results Microwave Engineering Europe Upcoming features and article focus October 2008: RFID Filters Frequency Synthesis November 2008: MMICs MEMS/Nanotech TRY OUR SOFTWARE FOR 30 DAYS!
